Stands the test of time
1968 was an incredible year for rock music, and at that time, RENAISSANCE was my very favorite record. My friends teased me no end; they said the album's lyrics were sometimes pretentious-- hey, the Beatles white album had its lowlights, too and yes even Hendix was over-the-top occasionally-- dare I say so?What I always loved about this greatest of all Fudge sets were the heartfelt emotions openly expressed in it, the sheer power of the music, and the beauty that lay within songs like "Paradise."I recently heard RENAISSANCE for the first time in decades. Everything I found special about it so long ago still moves me the way it did when I was young. As a musical document of a brief time in my life this will probably always remain a touchstone for me.For anyone who remembers those days, or for acid rock connoisseurs of all ages, RENAISSANCE is one of the finest examples of that musical genre you will ever encounter.PROGRAM--SIDE ONEThe Sky Cried / When I Was A BoyThoughtsParadiseThat's What Makes A ManSIDE TWOThe Spell That Comes AfterFaceless PeopleSeason of the Witch

Highly Recommended by Me
In 1969,after halfway finishing this album, abandoning it for a while for the Ill-Fated "The Beat Goes On",the group Vanilla Fudge finally went back to Finish this album, only to find Radio wasn't as cordial as they were to them before, due to the Lp before! Nevertheless,"Renaissance" was Business as usual for the R&B/Psych Hybrid group, but they'd did the Next album "Near the Beginning" without Shadow Morton, who was fired by the Group! Lots of Unfirgettable Moments on this one, filled with Original Tunes, and,as its final track on the album,a Cover of Donovan's "Season Of the Witch",which,as a 45,was broken into 2 parts, and Features Morton, reading a Poem titled "I'll Never Learn",the most Trippiest 7 Minutes the Group ever did! Also features 3 Bonus tracks,Non-Lp Sides and a Previously Unissued track "All In Your Mind"! All in All,A real Classic awaits! Highly Recommended by Me!

Surprised how tasty this vanilla was
Have been familiar with this band in name only for many years . But l dismissed them as a covers band and a bit old school sixtiesBut l decided to give this band a listen when l realised that they also wrote original material and that there covers are very different from the original because the clever twist is that they slow the songs down and put new arrangements This cd has a Donovan cover that changes from being a folk songs to a long prog rock songsAnd the music ranges from long guitar driven songs to more shorter commercial soundings songs and ballads with harmony l was surprised how advanced this music was for time of its release ( 1968) and how well it has stood the test of time .Did not sound dated at all and is definitely a classic of its time and genre. Don't fudge the issue get a taste of this tasty slice of vanilla rock

Burt Bacharach on a Rock & Roll Disc I cant wait to hear this...
To Say this sounds dated would be a slightly silly thing to say as the recording IS DATED. It goes all the way back to June of 1968 and that is a long way friend. Again the recording includes the most favored Keyboard instrument of the time the Hammond B3 Organ and the ever present Leslie Speakers towering alongside the organ and providing that heavy fade to the sound as the horns within the speakers spin within the speaker boxes. I did not realize until reading the liner notes tonight that Carmine Appice and Tim Bogert became a pair of team mates during their time together within the Vanilla Fudge back in the Late 60's and they are STILL playing together as a duet and bringing in other feature artists to play with them even now as late as the second decade of the Two Thousands. The most famous Trio to play with Carmine Appice was Jeff Beck Carmine Appice and Tim Bogart. This was very successful and grossed a great deal of money. There is a couple of cover tunes done on here that are quite good, Donovan's SEASON of THE WITCH and Burt Bacharach's LOOK OF LOVE...totally out of place for a rock and roll band but hey if they can make it work all the best to them...Spigomars

Fantastische Musik.
