I pulled out 8 ends and each looked like a half inch sharpened pencil
I am only giving 4 stars, because I have not had time to get the boat out and test the steering since installing the new clamp .Listen to thi.... I had a new Merc 850 installed in 1975, and the Mercury dealership installed a (similar looking clamp block, but the "throughthe transom bolts were black painted steel. So....when the boat and engine were about 20 years old, I decided to restore it. When I removedthe steering block kit on the stern, I discovered that all four bolts were missing half an inch between the bolt head, and the nut end. I pulledout 8 ends and each looked like a half inch sharpened pencil. All it would have taken was a quick turn at 40mph, and everyone in the boatcould have been catapulted out. I replaced the steel bolts with stainless steel. Flash forward another 20 years, and I still have the boat and engine, so while prepping it this spring I noted the entire steering block was rusting in half. (It lasted 40 years, so I could not see any sense in spending the extra $100 to buy the Stainless one, because even if the boat and engine last another 40 years, I would be 115yrs old. Money Saved ! why o why
i ordered this to change a 1970 johnson 40hp seahorse from cable to teleflex steering so far im happy with the item but not with the missing bolts from the package. it looked like someone ripped open a corner of the plastic bag and took two bolts and the nuts that matched them. i could see a package being ripped and a bolt falling out but not two of the same with there matching nuts. lucky for me where i work im allowed to use there hardwear selection and i replaced them myself with stainless but for anyone else plan on taking i chance on needing to go to the hardwear store to replace your stolen bolts
