AcuRiteIntelli-Time Digital Alarm Clock for Bedroom with USB Charger, Indoor Temperature and Humidity for Heavy Sleepers (13040CA)

I've had this clock for 1 1/2 years now. One of those rare items that I bought, turned on, and it's run great ever since. As soon as I turned the clock on, everything was already accurately set (time, date, moon phase) except the time zone was eastern time. It actually came with a paper manual, so very quick to flip it open and read how to change the time zone. It's easy to operate. The temperature agrees with our HVAC system. It loses a couple minutes over six months or so, but easy to update. The screen is big enough that everything is readable, even from the other side of the bedroom, yet it fits easily on a small nightstand. A really excellent little clock, especially for the price.

Update (February 2023) - All of these clocks run slow (automatic time set), but you can manually set the time manually. There is a set button on the side, I tried it before but was not able to set it. I gave my sister one and she said she manually set the time some time ago (I had replaced these with Amazon echos). So I pressed the button and held it down for some seconds and you can set the time manually something I had previously tried and failed to do. I don't think these came with directions. I had given up on these clocks due to the slow running clocks, all of my manually set clocks run fast. So these are good clocks would be five star if the auto set worked but I give them four stars. I'm just kind of frustrated I went so much trying to set these and I think of myself as savvy with electronics. Could have came with directions. Press and hold the middle button labeled SET (which pissed me off previously as I couldn't set the clock) and hold it and it will eventually allow you to manually set the clock. I have to put these clocks back out around the house once I figure out what I did with the rest of them...Update (June 2021) - Unfortunately I cannot recommend this product, it does not live up to it's potential, as nice looking as it is. I bought one for my Dad initially and liked it so much I bought several as gifts for friends and family member. One fatal flaw, NONE of them keep accurate time and I have them all around the house all of them are slow, one is in-between 15-20 minutes slow, six minutes slow, 11 minutes slow. None of them keep accurate time. Temperature, I don't know. Such a nice looking product and display, a shame. Epic fail.(2019) I just got this clock in the mail for my Dad who gets confused about what day it is sometimes. Set up was easy enough, the time blinked as accurate when I put the back up batteries in, before I plugged it into the socket. The humidity part is maybe an information overload for someone elderly. I do see the issue (seeing the time) from angles, but it is not as bad as some of the other reviewers. It's still readable, not a deal breaker for me. I purchased the clock at $18.60 and I was going to buy another one for myself. Now a week later it's $30, it's neat but I don't need it. I'll watch Dad's to see how it performs overtime and if it continues to do well and the price goes back down I'll get one for myself if there are no further issues with this neat little clock.So later I bought one for myself & now i have bought several as Christmas presents. It's a very good purchase, especially if you can catch it at the $20 price point.

There are a lot of reasons to like this AcuRite 13040 Clock, and I'd recommend it to anyone. It's almost, but not quite, perfect. And it's a lot better than the dozens of clocks I looked at before I found this one.LIMITED VIEWING ANGLE: The clock does have one significant issue: the viewing angle is very limited if you're not looking down at the clock. (This is due to it using LCD rather than LED technology.) So if you want to place the clock on a shelf rather than a bedside table, you might not be able to see it very well unless you make arrangements to tip it forward. We use the clock in our children's room, on a shelf that's about 50 inches off the ground, so I'll have to come up with a way to tilt it forward. It would be great if they made a version of this clock with an adjustable angle, that let it be tilted to suit the placement so it could be used on a shelf. The side-to-side viewing angle seems somewhat better.Now some of the many things I like about this clock:LOOKS GREAT: The clock looks great, with readable letters. The colors are nice. It's not as harsh as the LED lights in other clocks. The numbers are about 1-1/4 inches high, which is readable up to about 6-8 feet away.ADJUSTABLE, SUITABLE BRIGHTNESS: There are six brightness levels, and the brightness is easily adjusted by using the up and down arrows. The lowest level works well without lighting up the room more than necessary. Having white/colored numbers on a black background also helps reduce the unnecessary light.AcuRite has put some real effort into this important feature. It seems so few other clock makers have a usable brightness adjustment - lots of people using other clocks say that even at the lowest setting they are much too bright. That's certainly the case for the clock that this AcuRite clock replaced.AUTO DIM: The auto dim feature will switch the clock to the lowest brightness level from 9 pm to 7 am, then back to the highest brightness level. The time and level is not adjustable, which is a bit of a shame, but those times and brightness levels work for us. (I had wondered if this feature adjusted to the room's brightness - it does not, it's fixed to that time and level.) You are not required to use this feature - you can easily set the levels and adjust it as needed.THOUGHTFUL DESIGN: Clearly they spent time thinking about and refining the design and other features as well. Using the functions is straightforward.GOOD INSTRUCTIONS: It comes with a well-written instruction booklet. And in a nice touch, the French and English versions are separate booklets, so you can just keep the one you need.TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY: It's useful to know the temperature and humidity, and this clock makes it easy to keep track. Just note that the height and location will affect the readings. For example, the temperature at the height of the bedside table will probably be a little lower than a thermostat on the wall.GOOD QUALITY: The quality seems good, given the price of the clock. It doesn't seem overly cheap, like so many product these days.BATTERIES: The clock has a button-cell battery installed, and arrives with the time set. (You may have to adjust the time zone.) It will operate using two AAA batteries, but it seems you have to press the snooze button to see the time - the display is off by default when on battery.We don't use it as an alarm clock, so I haven't tested the alarm.

We live in a very old house with a guest attic that has no HVAC in the upper story. I needed to constantly monitor the humidity and temperature in the winter to judge when to turn on the heater and humidifier. I knew it got cold up there but I blamed it on my low tolerance. I didn't want family to complain so wanted to double check the temp before they came. Turns out it was 47 degrees F and the humidity was low.

This is really a great clock, the instructions are precise and written in proper English! Set up was incredibly simple, the clock was already set to my time zone (EST) and all I did was switch the temperature from Fahrenheit to Celsius. It also has not skid pads on the bottom so no worries about scratching furniture which is a nice feature. I was at first worried that the white plastic frame would be too white and cheap looking but in fact it's a bit duller then the picture shown and is well finished, doesn't look cheap at all. The daylight saving time feature is also a plus, no more having to add or subtract an hour twice a year, it's done automatically. The backup batteries are not included which would have been nice, but certainly not an issue. I was looking at other clocks which were twice the price and basically offered the same features, I chose this one initially based on cost and I'm very happy I did. The size is just perfect for a night table. I'm just hoping it won't lose time which based on other reviews doesn't seem to be a problem. I'd highly recommend this one, you won't go wrong!

Love this clock! We have two of these. Really appreciate how easy it is to see the numbers. Very accurate temperature and humidity readings. The time changes automatically with daylight savings.YES I would buy again! Excellent!
