He's Not Who You Think He Is: Dropping Your Assumptions and Discovering God for Yourself

Great book!
"He's Not Who You Think He Is" is a transformative book that challenges readers to shift their perspective on God. The central theme of the book is to make God a relationship rather than a set of religious rules, and it succeeds in doing so by breaking down common misconceptions about God that many people may not even be aware they have. One example of a powerful story shared in the book is the parable of the talents, found in Matthew 25:14-30. In this parable, three servants are given different amounts of talents (a form of currency) by their master, and the two who received more invested and multiplied their talents were praised, while the one who got the least buried his talent out of fear was rebuked. The lesson in this parable is often taught as one about using our talents for God, but the author also reveals that another lesson lies in how the servant’s responses revealed their relationship with their master and their view of God.Throughout the book, the author encourages readers to examine their own beliefs about God and to challenge any misconceptions that may be hindering their relationship with Him. He highlights the significance of questioning our own conceptions of God rather than blindly and mindlessly obeying him. This strengthens the sincerity of our bond.In conclusion, "He's Not Who You Think He Is" is a challenging and motivating book that will nudge readers to develop their relationship with God and let go of whatever constricting notions they may have about Him. Instead of only concentrating on exterior actions and norms, it encourages the reader to change from the inside out. Anyone who wants a closer, more sincere relationship with God should definitely read this book.

Re-igniting my passion and desire for a great relationship with God.
I know myself well enough to know that the church and the Bible are hugely important. And I can learn much. But I also need books like this to help focus my spiritualism and my priorities with God. Sometimes ideas and messages jump right off the page and, like a knife, cut right into my spiritual heart. I have included some of those below, taken from the book.Perhaps you, too, will experience ideas from the book that penetrate deep into your heart and reignite your passion for God. And the challenges that come with building a great relationship with God.Here are some messages (from the book) that ignite my spirit…and challenge me:“I never wanted a good life. I have always wanted a great life.”“Can you expand your imagination and dream of a God who is both irresistible and attractive?”“We have to discover and deal with the root of our disinterest, dislike, or downright repulsion. That root usually has something to do with how we see God…”“God is always about the relationship.”“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” (A.W. Tozer)“The goal is not merely to experience suffering but, with God’s help, to fight and overcome it. This spirit to fight only exists in the hearts of those who know and trust they have a God on their side who cares for them.”“He is looking for a relationship connection, not a stage performance.”“Providing God with a performance merely requires a change of behavior. On the other hand, building a relationship with God requires a change of heart.”There are so many more “awakening” messages. I challenge you to read and discover what re-ignites your desires for a great (not good) relationship with God.

Transformational !!
Mr. Ewell has a refreshingly different perspective on God and the need of forming a personal relationship beyond the average, ordinary Father/ child relationship. Thank you, Mr. Ewell for showing us a whole new perspective. Refreshing!

Highly recommended!
This is an exceptional book that has provided me with the opportunity to reflect on my view of God and how it influences my everyday life. The author expertly breaks down the different roadblocks that can hinder our relationship with God, such as people, religion, or misconceptions about God.What I appreciate most about this book is its insightful use of Scriptures to reinforce each point. The author's interpretation of the biblical passages is not only clear but also provides practical applications for how to overcome these roadblocks in one's own life. The "pause and reflect" sheets that follow each chapter are also very helpful, as they allow for self-reflection and personal growth.Furthermore, I particularly enjoyed the digital content at the end of each chapter. The playlists and Bible studies provided are excellent resources for further exploration and learning beyond the pages of the book. This feature makes it more than just a book; it is a complete guide to help strengthen one's relationship with God.I highly recommend this book to anyone seeking to overcome obstacles and strengthen their relationship with God. The book is well-written, comprehensive, and thought-provoking. It is a valuable resource for anyone seeking to develop a deeper understanding of God and the role faith plays in their lives.

A great book for atheists, agnostics and believers!
I highly recommend this book to atheists, agnostics and believers alike! I thought I knew a thing or two but I'm learning and experiencing more than I could have hoped for.I'm about half way through reading the e-book and am really enjoying the journey and experience so far. Russ' personal stories help me map out my own journey and experience to make what he writes with the accompanying scripture really relatable. His writing is warm and open, inviting my own personal thought, feeling and emotion. Not once has it felt like I'm being dictated, taught or preached at which is giving me the freedom to explore freely within myself.I like the fact the book has links to music, further reading, scripture and podcasts, it really brings the book alive and brings a whole new dimension of experience to it.I'm at a point in my life where this book is exactly what I need. I highly recommend this book to anyone who feels there's something missing inside, something missing in their faith, an emptiness or a calling for something deeper when it comes to God and faith. This book is helping me on a very deep level and one I'll be reading over and over. Thank you!

Challenging Religion - Confirming Faith
The very first sentence gripped me, convicting me of unintentionally becoming that which I was against - seeking fulfilment through the approval of others for my performance, rather than the joy of relationship with God through Christ Jesus. As I progressed through its chapters, Russ helped me drop my assumption that in order to please Him I would need to perform great feats of ministerial prowess as others were being congratulated for. Rather, I was reminded that my meat/fulfilment is to return to my first love - 'the passionate pursuit of God and the mission to make Him known' as He works through and with me. However, what is even better is that Russ provides a road map back to the centre of worship i.e. re-discovering God for myself and sharing this joy with those in the sphere of my influence.I believe you will too, through this thoroughly transparent, honest and practical book.

Good is the enemy of the great! This book needs to be read and reread
I'm probably quite happy with the good, so I'm not sure if I have the staying power to go for great. This book needs to be read and reread and ideally perhaps with an encouraging friend alongside for mutual encouragement to stay on the path. Only about 30% of the way through and I'm going back to the beginning - but the reading must be done hand in hand with prayerful conversation with God if you're really going to make progress. I'm on the journey!!!
