These are intended to protect your wall from any baby gate damage- they cradle the gate mount perfectly and have a nice rubber backing that would grip but not harm the drywall. However, we have twin toddlers and twin infants. When the baby gates went up to keep the babies out of danger zones, the toddlers were having to yank on the gate so hard to open them that the gates were constantly ripping up the drywall and falling over (danger!). Pressure mounted gates only work well when users are old enough and tall enough to properly lift the door to open. So we screwed these cradle things into the walls to give the gate a more permanent attachment to the wall and problem solved! They've been installed this way for a few weeks now and are holding strong. A screw hole is easy to patch later and is much less damage than the constant marring we were getting before; I wish I had done this every time we've used baby gates! The gates now feel very secure. These cradle things have a small center hole in the plastic that doesn't go through the rubber, but was perfect to put one screw through (just drilled through the rubber). We made sure to hit studs in the wall (easy to do if mounted near a wall corner) for stability. No problems!

These protect my doorway walls from the marks left by pressure gates. They also help the pressure gate stay in a bit better. After being installed for a few months the rubber back is stuck to the wall but no paint came off when I pulled them off.

Wall protectors were too big/wide for the job I wanted to use them for so I had to return them.
