Installed in a vaulted ceiling
The Z-Line is sleek, beautiful and powerful enough to remove all of the cooking odors. It is very well built and arrived well packaged. I am very pleased with my purchase, for the price, I don’t think I could have found a better unit. However, there were problems with my particular installation because I have a vaulted ceiling in my kitchen. I did the installation myself, I am not a contractor…just an advanced DYI person. I did need help putting the unit in place and in cutting the hole through the concrete tiles on my roof.Having redesigned the kitchen in my newly purchased home, I was dismayed to learn that the cooking odors quickly spread through much of the house. I had relocated the range from an outside wall to the center island and there was no way to vent it to the outside. The solution had to be a free-standing vent-hood.I discovered this unit and felt that it best matched the look I was trying to create and it had the air moving capacity that would be needed to carry the cooking odors through the ceiling and out through the roof. To have a little extra capacity, I ordered a 36-inch vent for a 30-inch range. I had never installed a free-standing vent-hood before and didn’t take the vaulted ceiling of my kitchen into consideration. The ceiling height was also an issue. At 9-feet 6-inches, Mounting this would place the vent at the outer limit of the recommended mounting height. I phoned Z-Line to ask if the unit could be installed in a vaulted ceiling and was told that it would be very difficult, but it could be done by building a soffit and attaching the mount to it. That, however, would have destroyed the clean look of the installation.Luckily, there was a ceiling joist in the exact location that I needed to locate the mounting bracket, but I first needed to build a mounting box from plywood that would attach to the joist while providing a level surface to bolt the mount to. I had to add two additional 2x4s in the ceiling to stabilize the mount and support the weight. That, actually, took more time than it did to mount the unit as I was working from within the 12x12inch opening in the ceiling. The most difficult part of the installation was finding that I had to cut the stainless steel riser to match the angle of the ceiling. This was done using a Dremel tool and several cutting discs.

Don’t buy this item from Amazon or Z-line
Purchased this vent hood in May of 2018 for a home we are remodeling. Unpacked the hood the other day after it has been packed away in a locked trailer and found it to be damaged. The stainless steel is scratched, dented and the plastic cover over the power supply is broken. It looks like it had been packed up and returned by someone prior to me. So I paid $600.00 for this vent hood and no one will help me. I called Z-line and they told me it was an Amazon issue and they should cover it under the warranty. Amazon told me they can’t find anything as far as the warranty goes and it’s a Z-line issue.UPDATE:We have decided.m to just live with this thing and we are having this professionally installed. My installer found there are no screws or bolts included so they had to go buy them to mount this to my ceiling. Also when you push the number 3 button it does nothing.I am really disappointed in Amazon for not helping us with a defective product. Also Zline told me if I had purchased it from them they would have replaced it. Zline also told me is was up to Amazon to provide warranty support in which Amazon says it is past the 30 day mark and no warranty is provided.

Great product!
The first vent hood we received was bent up pretty bad. We shipped that one back and bought another one in hopes it would be in prestine condition and it was! This vent hood looks fabulous in our new kitchen. I like that you can control the vent or lights from either side of the vent hood. The lights are not too bright or too dim. The ventilation works great. The first setting is quiet and gets a little louder from there but all in all this is an excellent, beautiful vent hood for the price.

Decent value - higher grade stainless material
I needed an island hood and most options out there are very pricey except for this particular line/style of hoods. Akdy sells one, GE sells one, etc. All look the same and probably made in China. So why pay more for this one than the Akdy? The answer is in the details. According to the z-line site, they are using a higher grade 18 gauge SS304 brushed stainless steel body. This is important for corrosion resistance and strength. The downside of this hood... you get what you pay for vs. a full custom island hood installation.- Instructions are terrible.- The sleeve shipped with a ding in it, but we were able to bend it out a little and mount it and so it's mostly hidden at the very top against the ceiling.- Some of the lights weren't working, but it turned out to be loose leads so a little tape on the press fit unions fixed it.- The electrical cord doesn't make any sense... either you need to hide an electrical outlet inside the ceiling (not up to code) or you need to cut the plug off and just tie the wires up directly (you need to be comfortable with basic electrical wiring to do this).- The tolerances on the main unit seemed a little loose so it doesn't hang on the bracket perfectly straight.- The sleeve itself (once seated), will have a pretty noticeable gap at the joint even after it's screwed in.Tips/Hints:- The mounting bracket does NOT allow for anything less than a 32" installation height (so unless you have a high ceiling, it's going to sit low). This was a bummer for us.- The actual width is NOT 30"... it's 29... so if you install over a 30" stove/range make sure you measure from the wall accordingly to get it perfectly centered.Overall, I wanted to give them more stars. The value is there, but I wish I had more of this info before we started the remodeling process and installation.

Very good pulling air capacity with lot of noise.
This range hood pulls smoke very good butIt gives lot of noise.Filters are working very good and easy to clean in the dish washer.Stainless steel plates on the top area are very flimsy, while cleaning It is not comfortable. When I use Stainless cleaning product also it is not shiny, still with finger marks.
